Serpentine

lyrics

I'm caught in the flow if things
My memory's a broken machine
This is how my day begins
This is just one day unseen
Lets do it serpentine any time
Lets do it right here

It is bad that you're good for me
Did I love you just randomly?
I'm caught in the flow of sound
And you're just some melody

Let's do it serpentine, any time
Let's do it right here

There's a cute little litany
Put it on my shoulder
Eight o'clock and we agree
It makes me look much older

Got my clockwork company
Got my dark green trenchcoat on
I'm sure it will always be
Someone staying and someone gone

A nice and moving song ... I think Tom especially likes it. When dEUS played in July' 97 at the Torhout Festival, he did something really impressive. It was the last song of their set, after a huge recall. In the middle of the song, Tom said "Schhhhhh", putting a finger before his lips. Imagine more than 30,000 persons keeping VERY silent ...

Serpentine is about "unfaithfulness, and how difficult it is to have a lasting relationship". Tom's inspiration for the lyrics came from an interview with Sean Penn, one of his favourite actors, during which he said : "You do it straight or you do it serpentine."

The version on Axelle Red's Longbook was recorded during the "Tom Barman & friends" acoustic set at the Dranouter Folk Festival in August 2000. With Axelle Red, thus.
