Thank God, the dML is still alive, and it's much more interesting since the official one died and was replaced by Arthur's. Today in my mailbox : Quinten tells us that Tom Barman will be on Studio Brussel's "Marquee" on Sunday between 17.00 & 19.00. He'll talk about "which summer festivals seem interesting to him and which bands he wants to see live this summer". He'd probably say "Wham", but too bad, Bad Boy George M. decided better long ago ;-) [more ...]
Three days ago, Tom played a great acoustic set at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. He did some songs with Guy Van Nueten on the piano. You can listen to the whole performance from the festival's website. If you don't give a damn about the site, click here for audio (22 Khz) or here or here for video (45-100 Kbps or 300 Kbps). A few hours after playing the guitars, he put his hands down on the turntables and played a rather good DJ set (audio/low-res/hi-res). He's really improved a LOT since I heard him in Dour one year ago. Oh, this bit of news really comes from ISufferRock.com, Arthur is really lightning-fast.
German music magazine Visions is celebrating its 10th birthday with the launch of a compilation CD sold with the 100th issue. Surprise : there's a dEUS track ! And even better : it's a B-side from the IABUTS period, I Suffer Rock. A must-buy if you don't have that track yet. Other tracks include rare recordings by Placebo, Moby, Incubus, Motorpsycho, Sonic Youth, Weezer ...
If you're familiar with this site (or with any other really good dEUS site), you know that Tom was a squash champion before he became a Rock Star. Well, he's feeling all young again, raving about Belgium's best new export : female tennis players. In the latest issue of Mao Magazine, he talks about a tennis technique called the dropshot, which Kim & Justine seem to love. Quote : "Martina Hingis saved tennis genius". No wonder he dedicated a song to her :-) Okay, click here to read the full article !
De Morgen today has an interview with Vive La FĂȘte, Danny claims that there's only one dEUS album they might be doing, but even that might not be happening. In any case, don't expect anyhting soon...Well, if Tom is looking for musicians to replace any quitters, we'd better learn to play dEUS songs pretty fast ... This probably means that the future of dEUS lies in Tom Barman's solo career. Will he start a new band? Or just take in new musicians? Or ... decide he's better at making films than music? Pray.
