People please, more of this stuff !!!
What else can I say, absolutely everything was perfect
yesterday.
True, the setlist was almost the exact same as in Amsterdam, but
they played the songs with an energy that just wasn't there on Tuesday.
The guys obviously enjoyed themselves a lot. Tom was all rock'n'roll,
making funny comments all the time, interacting with the crowd (when
a girl at the front asked Tom to talk "en français",
Tom went "Vous êtes en Hollande, little lady, s'il y
avait des Russes je devrais parler russe ?", she must have
burnt red with shame), he sat down on the edge of the stage to sing
Magdalena, he did it hip-hop style during W.C.S., ... Danny was
just Danny, the SSS fit much better into place than the day before,
Tim made second voices more often than usual, and even Craig (Craig!)
did silly little dances.
And the best part is that the sound balance was incredible, you
could hear all instruments distinctly, every single detail, everything.
As for the songs, the new version of Hotellounge is terrific, particularly
its intro & outro, and cutting the rough edges only makes it
more beautiful, though I wouldn't say it's better than on the album,
just different. It would be great if they played both versions,
keeping the original one (in its extended live version including
a cover at the end) for the encore. They also revisited W.C.S. quite
a bit, and I enjoyed it much more than the W.C.S. they played during
the Ideal Tour, that one was far too quiet. Tim adds some guitar
madness to the new version. They played a veeeeery tight Suds &
Soda, the violin intro was longer than usual cos the band wasn't
ready, no pause before the final part of the song, just loudness,
loudness, loudness, loved it. For the first time, I liked The Magic
Hour (it's definitely not my favourite song), I closed my eyes to
let the music sink in, it was great, should have tried that earlier.
The SSS's rendition of Little Ghost wasn't bad at all, much more
convincing than the day before (blame a bad balance at Paradiso),
I was a little disappointed, though: during the rehearsals the white
woman couldn't help bursting out laughing in the middle of the song,
I wanted her to do it again during the gig, sometimes perfection
has its drawbacks If You Don't Get What You Want is a terrific song,
not really original but it's catchy and a sure single for the next
album.
And Kevin, you're damn right, it's way better without the videos.
You get a decent lightshow and it's easier to get into the atmosphere.
I missed the applause when the dolphin finally catch the bait, though
Wonderful,
thank you Tom & the others.
And
Danny got his birthday celebrated by the crowd (or was it on Tuesday?)
and he said that Tom got himself a new girlfriend in Amsterdam.
She's called Aline. After the rehearsal, while Tom, Danny &
Klaas were relaxing on the street outside the Nighttown bar, Craig
went to the hotel with one of the Sissy Spacek Singers (the one
with a blonde dye), and he was happily kissing her at the bar before
the gig. Perhaps his silly dancing on stage was some kind of Scottish
nuptial parade. |
