Mmh,
it's difficult to write about a gig you've seen three years earlier
... It was the day before Diana, Princess of Wales, died in a carcrash
after dining at the Ritz in Paris, which made me laugh a lot. I
was on the bus going from Nandrin to Liège, a bus packed
with festival-goers, and it was the first bit of news we heard after
a night of drinking and scaring the surrounding cows. And, of course,
of talking of all those great performances we'd just seen.
It
was a great festival, with an impressive Belgian line-up : Evil
Superstars, DAAU, Be Plouvier (not really good, but three years
ago I was a fan), and of course dEUS, plus great things like Sophia
and lots of bands I hadn't heard of. All this for the incredibly
low price of 500 Belgian francs (12.5 euros).
I would
be lying if I said that dEUS left a vivid impression of that night.
I had a feeling that they didn't really care about doing Nandrin,
a really small festival (attendance 5,000 at its peak, ie during
the dEUS gig) in a remote part of Southern Belgium. But I remember
Tom saying that it would be the last time they'd ever play Via.
Dunno if it's true.
